Making Your Content More Shareable

September 7, 2011 by Steven Leave a Comment

Are you making your content easily shareable?

One of the over looked aspects of quality content is, “How sharable is it?

Make your SEO about getting people to share. Well not all of your SEO efforts, but a good portion.

Studies show that people will buy from a friends recommendation before that of a stranger. If you make it easier for someone to share your content on the typical social media sites, then you will inevitably get more traffic.

More traffic is what we are all going after isn’t it?

Shut Up and Show Me Something

Making your content easy to read can have a tremendous return, and the time it takes to format your content to make it easier to read is well worth it.

Let’s look at 2 versions of the same blog post:

Version 1

Version 1

Version 1 - The Original

Note: nothing sticks out at you. If you were to see this page you might not spend any time reading it. Why? It will take too much time. You can’t skim it to find what is important and more importantly, what your friends or followers might like. It doesn’t get shared.

Version 2

Version 2

Version 2 - Added Formatting

In version 2 we simply added:

Paragraph Headers: These tell you exactly what each section is about so you can read what you find interesting,

Bolded Text in Content: Catches the users attention and brings them in to the paragraph. This also aligns the users thought with, “My friend Johnny would like to read this.”

Links: Links are obvious and add additional information to the experience.

Share Buttons: This should be obvious, but reports show that it only 53% of top sites have Social Share Buttons. It can increase your sharing by 700%.

These few edits would take less than 5 minutes, but would increase your sharability.
